Can You Send Me A $100.00?

Writer: It's LaChevIt's LaChev

I don't even know where to start with this story because it’s still unbelievable. Even as I write this post, I don’t even know where to start. All I know is that it started with the good ol‘ swiping on Tinder again. 🤷🏽‍♀️ So here we go...

I was swiping and ended up matching with this really cute guy. Although this guy was cute, there was something about him that I couldn't put my finger on. All I knew was that I didn't know what to expect but wanted to see where my interaction with this guy would lead to.

We had only been texting for a couple of weeks but within those weeks, we probably messaged back and forth once or twice a week. It wasn't due to my lack of not wanting to get to know this guy, it was his “busy schedule” and his late responses.

Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. “Charles” stated that he worked Sunday through Friday from 7am to 7pm and worked half a day on Saturdays. When he told me this, I couldn’t help but give the chain of text messages the side eye. Something was not adding up. Oh! He also worked for the Marines and was currently in California on contract for a couple of months.

The thing is I can definitely see a person working that amount of hours and days but can see them living a double life as well. Time would tell with this guy and it eventually did sooner than later.

One day he hit me up, immediately apologizing for not reaching out to me sooner. It was okay because people are busy and to be honest, he was no longer a serious potential. Especially given his “work schedule” and inconsistency.

Then not even a minute later, he mentions having problems with his internet and without a pause asks me to help by sending a $100.00. At first, I was blown away and felt a tinge of disappointment. Even though I asked if he was joking, deep down I knew he wasn’t.

“Charles” stated that he needed to get his credit card bills together, totally leaving out that he had initially asked to get help paying for his internet. I didn’t know what this $100.00 was going to do since he now had credit card bills.

I told him that I didn’t have it and reminded him of his occupation and couldn't for the life of me understand why he would ask me for a dime. All he could say was that he paid his own bills and that he would give me the money back. 😬 If you are an engineer working way over forty hours a week, why are you asking me for money??? Especially, when you don’t know me from a can of paint...unbelievable.

I had to remind this scammer that we were in the midst of a pandemic and people were dying out here! And who has money to be throwing away like that? After reading this guy the riot act, he begged me not to tell anyone, went offline, and unmatched me on the dating app. I didn’t expect nothing less.

Dating in this technological age is not for the faint of heart. Not only do we have to be on the look out for the crazies and the unfavorable, we need to watch out for the scammers. Ladies and Gents, please be careful out there. Don‘t fall for anyone asking you for money on these platforms and don’t be emptying out your coffers an exchange for insincere flowery words either.
